  • Confessions of a Trainer: How I Stay Fit

Here we go. I am about to spill the beans and pull the curtain covering the top-secret training principles and mind-bending tricks on how I stay fit. Will it blow your mind? You’ll be the judge. Because, and here’s the kicker: what I do is nothing revolutionary. I do basic stuff but I do them with consistency. And, for me, that seems to work wonders. We can tweak our diets and major in minors. But when we have the basics in place, we’ll do 99% better than the majority of people.

Here’s the best part: everything I do is within the reach of everyone else too. Yes, I do spend most of my days in a gym because of my work. But it doesn’t mean I can train myself all the time. I have client contact hours as well as running the admin side of my sole-trading business. (more…)

  • Reasons and Fixes for Low Motivation

    Reasons for Low Motivation

If the times of of low-motivation are frequent in your life it might be worth digging deeper and discovering why your motivation keeps fading. Different people will have different reasons for it. I’ve listed few major issue below. This list, by no means, is comprehensive but they are the most common issues I’ve come across with clients (or myself for that matter). (more…)

The 4 Unspoken Issues Why Fat Loss Is Hard
If it hasn’t worked so far it’s time to look beyond the box you’ve been stuck in

When a long-lasting fat loss struggle has been synonymous with your life it might be tempting to jump into a short, extremely restricted diet that promises the loss of 10kg in 10 weeks. It is tempting because these programs are marketed as those shiny, silver bullets that I, so greatly, despise. I mean that’s what you see in the Biggest Loser and other shows so it must the way to go. Well, no. (more…)

  • If You Struggle with Fat Loss

If You Struggle with Fat Loss

“There is another word for self-discipline. It is patience”. – Henepola Gunaratana

There is no “secret sauces” in achieving the body that you want. There is no magic tricks or lifestyle hacks to speed up your process of improving how your body feels, looks and functions. There’s only so many books you can read because eventually you’ll have to bite the bullet and do the hard stuff. And fat loss can be as hard at it gets. There is no special pill for you to swallow that’ll take all your problems and issues away. Not even Dr. Oz can help you here, no matter what he might want you to believe.  (more…)

  • The Value of Play and Mental Deload

The Value of Play and Mental Deload

What gives me the right to write about ways to improve life? I am 32 years of old and that doesn’t quite qualify me as a “wise old man” with all the answers. Yet I learn as I go and find importance in things. I only write about what I’ve tried. I only write about what works for me or my clients. My end goal still is to help as many people with their health as possible and I believe, better yet, I know that holistic approach on health will do more than just writing on about how many sets you should bench press or how many of your calories should come from organic Brussels sprouts.

To have a healthy body requires one to have a healthy mind and a balanced life. You can’t win in everything by just going harder. And that’s why I am on a quest trying to show you a better way. All that being said, this is what I believe and champion for:

    Healthy mind = Healthy body.
You can’t have one without the other.

  • How To Refocus on What’s Vital in Your Training

How To Re-Focus on What’s Vital in Your Training

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when stepping your foot in a gym: rows of machines to choose from, there’s kettlebells, barbells, dumbbells, bands, benches, suspension trainers, balls, walls, chin up bars and the mysterious “thing” that looks like a medieval torture device, once reserved for the witches. Quite frankly, the list reads like the inventory of your local hardware store.

You yearn clarity because it shaves time off your training while improving your results, so you can spend time on other, perhaps more pressing tasks. Such as finding your favorite left sock that’s been missing since Saturday. (more…)

  • Idiot Proof Your Fat Loss Plan

Idiot Proof Your Fat Loss Plans

Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax. -Abraham Lincoln

Whether your goal is to lose ten kilograms or to run a marathon you have to plan everything step by step. Approach these goals the same way as you would an important project at work. It’s unlikely that you’d take on a project without a plan on how to execute it. Solid planning always beats “winging it”.

Trying to lose 10 kilograms with a vague decision of “train more” doesn’t get you anywhere in the long run. The question you need to ask is how much more? How will I fit training in my schedule? What if I can’t make it to the gym, what is my fall back plan? How do I keep myself accountable? Is more training the easiest way for me to lose weight or do I have other options? And then the most crucial question of them all, why do I want to lose ten kilograms in the first place?

  • We Are Stronger In Groups

    We Are Stronger in Groups

This past Friday I went to see the force that is Machine Head play at The Metro here in Sydney and made some interesting observations. Music can be a powerful tool. Above anything it can be an amazing way to find a common ground with strangers. I saw some interesting similarities between being in a gig with other ‘head cases’ and having an intentional community where everyone works for the same goal. Whether it’s be fat loss, strength or other healthy habits to have a better quality life.

  • The Manifesto

    NYC

Confession: I wrote this earlier this year but decided not to make it public at the last minute as I thought that this post was a bit too personal. I chickened out!
BUT after reading it yet again I changed my mind. Hopefully it’ll inspire you to write your manifesto as well. That way you can focus spending your time on things that really matter to you. So here you have it.
    ———-

I am currently re-reading Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Geoff McKeownI highly recommend everyone to read it, especially in this day and age where million different things are pulling us in two million different directions. This book brings clarity.

This week’s post is short and sweet. A while back I wrote about creating your own life mission statement ( <—– Click me, it feels nice) to provide guidance when facing difficult decisions in life. It acts like a compass and helps you to navigate through.
