  • Practice – Don’t Just Try to Be Better at Exercising

    PRACTICE
Let’s make a deal. No longer will we call the work done in the gym ‘exercise’. Nope, none of that. Instead each time you hit thy gymnasium we shall call it ‘training’. You are not (I hope not!) only going to the gym to get good at exercise. Getting good at exercise means that you are going in with the simple plan to make yourself tired.

  • Thoughts on… Part III: Learning, Values, Peacefulness and Being a Good Person

    Copy of Thoughts on
For those of you who are reading a post like this for the first time. I take random notes throughout my days while reading, listening to podcasts or after something came up in a conversation. These thoughts are randomly jolted down in Evernote but I try to organize them a bit before posting. Just so it would make at least some sense to you guys as well.
I wish I could credit everyone who’s teachings or ideas I’ve written down but I just simply can’t remember.
This is the third installment and probably the most random collection of thoughts so far.
Here’s links to Part I and Part II as well.

  • Disconnect and De-Stress

    DISCONNECTANDDE-STRESS

Today’s world is a hectic place to be in. We work long hours, have tight deadlines to meet and people (both good and bad) to please. With all the technology available today, hitting us with it’s sharp reach-ability it’s rare that we can just come home, put our feet up and forget work. Smartphones, tablets, computers and all the other jazz put us within reach all the time. It can get daunting. How many of us can resist checking our emails when at home?

  • You Will Feel Uncomfortable & You Will Fail (and it’s okay)

    -POP

Starting anything new in life will be difficult and can make us feel awkward. Losing weight, getting stronger or overcoming an injury. None of them easy when you first start out.
It’s good to aim high but if you set the goal too far ahead there is a chance you will become discouraged at some stage when things don’t go your way. And as sure as the earth is round and the moon orbits the earth, at some point, things won’t go your way.

This doesn’t mean that you should accept the failure and set for mediocre results (don’t ever!) but rather to be ready for what you are up against.

But you can prepare yourself for all of this by accepting the following two points. These will help you when the going gets tough.  (Mental) Preparation is half the battle!

  • Stop Killing Yourself!

    Stop Killing Yourself

Most of us are privileged enough to have given this functioning and amazing piece of “machinery” at birth called the body. (Yeah, I know none of us is born without a body, smart ass. Read along, it makes sense.) We should be grateful that we are able to move and do all these great things in life that involves using our body to it’s full capacity. Some people with disabilities never get a change to do so. Be grateful of what you’ve got.

  • The Secret of Getting and Staying Fit

It can be hard sticking to your weekly fitness routine or working on improving your eating habits. The reward for doing either of them is always delayed and most times even painfully slow. Lifestyle change takes enormous amount of perseverance where you have to tough things through to keep the momentum going. If it would be easy, I wouldn’t spend mad amount of time each week writing my blog.

  • Reasonably Fit – The Key to Long-Term Success

It shouldn’t be news to anyone that I love a reasonable approach to health and fitness. Once you reach a certain point in your fitness you start to see diminishing returns of your time spent in the gym.  You’ll have to put in considerable time to get only little improvement. In other words, be content with being there 98% and spend your time doing other important things. Unless you are competing in high level of sports there is only so much you need. Can You Go, a book by Dan John has a great sentence: “Your perfect place is a blend of health, lifestyle and values”. Now take about five minutes to let that sink it.

  • How to Take The Ownership of Your Health and Fitness

Think of yourself as a lifelong student of health and fitness. Don’t just show up and mindlessly do what you are being told, then forget all about it until your next session and start again. Study your body the same way as you would study and analyze the Asian stock market.  (more…)

  • Thoughts on… Part II: Fitness for Life, Busyness and Sticking with It

    Thoughts on

So you started working out and might feel like you just don’t have time for it in your busy schedule. The truth is that most of the times when starting a new habit something else might have to give in order to fit something else in. We as human beings have a habit of cramming our life’s full of “stuff” and usually something has to give. And it won’t necessarily be easy to give up.

  • Align Your Goals with Your Values

It’s crucial to base your fitness goals in the values that mean something to you. Finding your “why” is important when setting up goals but it is as important (if not more importarter – I can say that, it’s my blog) to discover or revisit your values before just putting empty words on a piece of paper.

When you base your goals on what the society, your family, your friends, co-workers or SpongeBob (imagine walking around wearing square pants because he said so) considers to be right  but ignore what you really believe in, you will end up pushing water uphill. You will feel like you are failing at everything because you are trying to get somewhere where you really don’t want to get to.
